How much does the Phlebotomy Technician I Program cost?

Please select your preferred The cost of the Phlebotomy Technician I Program is $1,599. Tuition includes in-class instruction (40 hours), background checks, medical supplies, student ID’s, liability insurance, and clinical externship placement (5 days/40 hours). Tuition does NOT include external costs such as CPR cards, immunizations, uniforms, TB test, first aid certification, or the state application and exam fees.

Please note: $250 is nonrefundable.

What are the requirements for the Advanced Online Training Program?

The Phlebotomy Advanced Online Program is designed for individuals with a minimum of 1040 hours (equivalent to 6 months, full-time) of on-the-job phlebotomy specific experience within the last 5 years.

Requirements:
-Minimum 18 years of age
-Highschool Diploma/ GED/ College Transcripts or equivalent

According to the California Department of Public Health website, the agency that issues the CPT I license:

“Work experience in California as an unlicensed laboratory staff person will not be accepted as qualification toward any clinical laboratory license. Please note that biotech/pharmaceutical, forensic, academic, veterinary, research, and student laboratory experience cannot count as work experience or training for any clinical license.

Phlebotomy experience in a blood bank cannot count towards on-the-job phlebotomy experience for certification. On-the-job experience must include blood collection for testing purposes from patients of varying ages, including pediatric and geriatric, and of varying health and obesity status.”

Is financial aid available for the Phlebotomy Technician I Program?

How long is the Phlebotomy Technician I Program?

80 hours total. The class schedule consists of a didactic (in-class lecture) and a clinical externship (hands-on experience).

Weekday in-class lecture will be 4 hours (morning 8am-12pm or evening 6pm-10pm) for 10 days, M-Th, for 2.5 weeks followed by a 40-hour clinical externship.

Saturday in-class lecture will be 8 hours (8am-4:30pm), for 5 Saturdays followed by a 40-hour clinical externship.

Where does the clinical externship take place?

SoCal Phlebotomy Institute has partnered with numerous hospitals, doctor offices, and clinical laboratories in Southern California for our students to complete their hands-on clinical externships.

Can students choose where they complete their clinical externship?

No. Students will be placed in their clinical externship. We will do our best to accommodate our students.

How often do classes start?

We have new classes starting every month.

Do you offer job placement upon completion of the course?

No, we do not offer job placement. However, we will provide any leads we may have and/or potential options for employment.

What are the program objectives?

Upon successful completion of our approved Phlebotomy Technician I Program, each student will have met all requirements in the state of California and receive a certificate of completion which states the student “Has successfully completed 20 hours of basic didactic, 20 hours of advanced didactic, and 40 hours of practical phlebotomy training; including a minimum of 50 patient venipunctures and 10 patient skin punctures pursuant to CCR Title 17, Section 1034 (a) (2).”

What is a CPT I?

A Certified Phlebotomy Technician I is a licensed, medical professional who draws blood from a person for diagnostic or research purposes. Most phlebotomists work in hospitals, clinics, blood banks, research facilities or through law enforcement agencies. Phlebotomists are trained to collect blood via venipuncture and finger sticks including heel sticks when dealing with infants.

What is required to register?

You must be 18 or older with a high school diploma or GED or equivalent.
